The Discovery of Graphic Novels

For those who own a PS3 and are easily obsessed with anything, DON'T get DC Universe Online!

Wanting to learn more about the NPC's background stories, made me go out and purchase all these DC Comics within a span of three days......oh....the damage to my wallet D:

I've become really interested in the Batman storyline, especially Dick Grayson's story. I'm trying to find and collect all trade paperbacks that show his story, currently reading Batgirl: Year One. After reading Robin: Year One, I love how some of the same dialogue and scenes are presented through different viewpoints, even if they were written and drawn by different artists. It's almost like I'm slowly putting each small piece together to get the big picture, so exciting :D.

From what I've read on several forums and guides, the next trade to read would be Nightwing: Year One, but sadly my local bookstore did not have any of these in stock. So I just grabbed a

nything that had a hint of Dick in it, hence the last two trades of Nightwing, hahaha.

I've never bought graphic novels before, so I'm still a little new to how the whole western industry works, how issues are published and all the vocab. I've only known about mangas and Asian comics throughout my whole life, so this feels like I'm discovery a whole new world! This discover makes me feel like a kid again, frantically trying to catch up on the childhood that I missed. I do, however, have a ridiculous collection of manga at home. My mom recently had to order additional bookcases because the collection was getting out of control; completely warping the bookcases and all :P I might take some pictures once I get home.

I've been reading this really interesting book on the side.

An interesting viewpoint on how games have been giving gamers some essential competencies that are rarely picked up on in the real world. A definite recommendation to gamers and non gamers alike!

I decided to add a little perspective into this drawing after seeing a shoe add in a fashion magazine. I thought the pose was something that Natsu would do all the time whenever he was feeling Happy.

I like how it turned out. Now I think I need to work on improving my landscape and scenery drawing & coloring. It looks a little odd, haha.

One of my favorite couples! Juvia is such an entertaining character. I love her utter devotion to Gray, it so cute.

It seems that because I'm reading the manga in Thai, I often don't know what the characters are known as in English on the web. In Thai they call her Jubia, but I guess she's known as Lluvia? Oh well, I'll just call her a mix between the two: Juvia...haha

OMG! You've got to be kidding me! The Thai editors have censored all the graphic parts in the new printing of hunterxhunter. I know they want to protect the children, but how am i supposed to know what's going on IF YOU CENSOR IT!?

Gosh, it makes the kids even more curious when you blatantly black out parts of the image! And extreme real life gore on the front page of the newspaper you just expose to the public, not to mention those kids you're trying to protect!?

Man. Their sense of judgement just makes me angry! Darnit! I just want to enjoy my comics :( So much for appreciating the artist's hard work...

This week's comic book haul :) I'm so happy i found RAVE's spinoff comic: plue no inu kikki (Plue Dog's Diary). I've recently started to reread RAVE and it reminded me of Plue's ultimate cuteness. Eventhough Fairy Tail's Happy is a hilarious character, you can't deny Plue's sutle hilarity.

Last night i went to watch harry potter for the second time with my dad. While waiting for the movie to start (at 21:30), we had dinner at fuji. I orded their new bottled matcha - i had never tried the bottle version before, only the freshly made one.

I think it's one of the best matchas i've ever had! You can taste the delicious bitter greentea, it's quite strong actually. Just like i like it.

Sadly, it's rather expensive for a tiny 250ml bottle. I guess tasty things are bound to be expensive :(

Poitiers: Le Parc de Blossac, Part II

I took a lot of pictures during my trip to Blossac, so here's part 2.

Again, those squared trees are awesome! I think it'd be a perfect spot for a photo shoot or promotional video. The second zoo is located at the very end of the road.

They had some of the cutest goats ( > д < ) ♥ There was a large bin for people to donate baguettes to the goats.

They were adorable and made the cutest noises! My mom and I kept squeeing whenever they bleated. This reminds me of an episode of Mythbusters where they prove the fainting goat's video. That episode had me dying of cuteness ( > д < ) ♥ The older goats didn't seem to care about the baguettes. They were just chilling on the roof of their house. Once in a while they would turn their heads to another direction. It was so cute ( ´Д`) ♥

Earlier, I said the park was located on top of a hill, here you can see wall.

It had a great view of Poitiers.
The swirly road leads to the parking space of the apartments.

There was a huge fig tree. I never had any, so my mom picked some ripe ones.

They were so good!!☆
When I came back to Thailand I tried to find some in the supermarket. Sadly, they only had Turkish dried figs for insane prices. I did, however, clear out their sampling bowl (≧∇≦)

We came back to the apartment and had some crème brûlée. Back when I was a little kid and we lived in Arras, I loved crème brûlée so much. Whenever my aunt asked me what I wanted for dessert, I would always shout "crème brûlée" to the point that she didn't need to ask anymore. I still have vivid memories of using my spoon to crack the top of the dessert (ﾟ∀ﾟ)

I've started to watch the US version of The Office and I'm currently on the second season. And OMG! Jim and Pam are probably the most realistic and cutest couple on tv ever o( > v < )9 I've already seen some of the 5th season so I know they end up together, but my heart still breaks a little whenever Roy pops up. It's the same "oh-no-this-can't-be-happening" feeling I got when Ross came back from China with Julie ( ´Д`)

Thai Human Imagery Museum

A while ago we visited the Thai Human Imagery Museum. There was a documentary about the museum on television and I knew I had to visit it! I told my boyfriend about it and one day after class we made a spontaneous trip to the museum. I love spontaneous trips (≧∇≦)♥

We got there just in time! 30 minutes before closing time.

The place is HUGE! They've got an enormous parking space, food court, and lake. The museum itself only took up a tiny bit of space.

The first set of wax statues depicted all the kings who reigned. It was so scary at first ((((((ﾉﾟ⊿ﾟ)ﾉ The statues were super realistic and the whole place was pitch dark with spotlights shining on the statues. And since we came late, we were the only ones in the whole museum! The guides were the worst! They were lurking in dark corners and randomly popped out almost giving me a heart attack.

The first few rooms were super creepy. They had famous monks and other royals. I was too creeped out to take pictures of those statues. We just rushed past those rooms 三( ﾟДﾟ)

The second floor was so much better! (*⌒∇⌒*) They had such cute statues of the traditional life style. These were scenes of some of the famous games played during that time.

The kids were adorable! They looked so realistic...I was tempted to poke them, but I could sense the creepy guides lurking behind us.

I really liked the traditional life style rooms. They had interesting scenes like fishing, farming, rice planting, and many others.

The last rooms did give me chills again though. There were a bunch of scenes from stories by a famous Thai author. The giant sea witch creeped me out so much (;´Д`)ノ She was so tall! You can probably see from the picture how scary they made the lighting on her. Oh man.

Overall, it was a nice place to visit. I just wish there were more tourists in the museum, so it wouldn't have felt like a haunted house trip.

Poitiers: Le Parc de Blossac

During my stay in Poitiers, we went to Le Parc de Blossac. It's quite a large parc! They have two little animal areas, an amphitheater, a large area for conventions, and lots of space to run around (*＾ー＾)ノ

The interesting thing is that the park is located on top of the hill. So it has a beautiful view of the whole city. It's also very well kept.

I really like how the parc is arranged. This is one of the side entrances, although I don't think it's usually open on normal days.

The first little animal "zoo" has an assortment of ducks, swans, and many other types of birds. It also has rabbits, hamsters, and parrots.

Right before we decided to head back to the apartment, we spotted a huge bush of rosemary. My mom mentioned how it would be great to bring some back to Thailand to cook with. I'm pretty sure she planned to come to the park just to take some rosemary home. Because magically she produced a pair of scissors and started to cut the branches (･ω･ﾉ)ﾉ！

We did manage to take quite a handful of rosemary back (and of course we clipped the very tall parts where dogs wouldn't be able to get to).

This Christmas my mom baked a delicious chicken, using the rosemary we got from the park d(≧∪≦●)

My aunt gave birth this morning!

IN A CAR! Σ(=°ω°=;ノ)ノ

She was starting to get contractions since last night and went to the hospital. The doctors told her that she could go home because it was probably false labor. So this morning I guess she knew it was time and called up her neighbor, who LUCKILY was a nurse. They headed back to the hospital and gave birth on the way. Oh gosh, I can't imagine how stressed out she must've been (；゜Д゜) On top of that, it's her first child.

I now have another little baby girl cousin ♥
It seems like girls are the trend in my mom's family! She's now the fifth girl in our generation. Leaving Jo the only boy (＾～＾)

I completed a little Presto Chango sweater a few weeks ago for her. I'll probably send it off this weekend.

I only had six buttons of the same color so I had to adapt the button holes of the pattern a little bit. I think it turned out great, no mistakes at all (≧∇≦)9

I also knit the original lace pattern in case she wants a fancier feel. I had to restart this panel three times though! I kept messing up which row I was on (;´д`)ゞ

Poitiers City 2008

Last summer I went to Poitiers to visit my mom.

It's a rather tiny city! Most residents are Uni students since it's considered one of France's University cities. I loved the weather! Although highly unpredictable, it was a great change to the constant heat here at home.

This is the bridge most people use to get to the city area.

It was so tiring to drag my suitcase all the way up to my mom's apartment ((((((ﾉﾟ⊿ﾟ)ﾉ But the cool weather made it bearable, I couldn't even begin to imagine how much I wouldv'e sweated had the temperature been like Thailand.

The tall building with mirrors is an art gallery that just officially opened a few days before I arrived. Sadly, it wasn't open to the public during the week I stayed there (；゜Д゜)

I love her personality and she had such a pretty face! I hope she doesn't disappear and continues to model. It's quite shocking how she booked zero jobs out of the five go-sees she went to though! The designers where so tough about her height! I mean 5ft8 isn't that short.

尽's Birthday present, part II

I decided to draw Jin in his Super Ultra Lovesong outfit because it's definitely my favorite so far. I really like the colors of this outfit. And the little jacket really suits him
( > д < ) ♥ Censored the birthday message :)
I don't really want to share my terrible Japanese skills ♥ I hope he understands the birthday card/fan mail.

I actually wanted to decorate the cake by gluing colorful yarn to the cake (a la Martha Stewart), which was the original idea for the card. Although, the moment I finished sketching the whole birthday card, I couldn't find any proper glue in my apartment at all (ﾉ_･｡)

I didn't have any nice gift wrapping paper either! My apartment seriously lacks crafting supplies. Luckily, the stationary store at Uni had an adorable gift bag for sale. The hat and card fit perfectly into the bag.

Yesterday I mailed the package. It's a tad early since Jin's birthday is on the 6th of May. But Golden Week is also coming up, so I guess it'll get there on time.
I hope he'll like the gift ~ (*´艸`)♥♥

Birthday present

Last night I cast on a birthday present for 尽 (Jin).

I decided to make a hat/beret because I've seen him wearing the same hat combination (hat on top of baseball cap) to every event. As well as the exact same clothes as a matter of fact (;´д`)ゞ This way I can be sure that he has more than two hats to choose from, even if he won't wear it in public.

I decided to use my Ornaghi filati Tibet yarn I had in my stash. The yarn is lovely! It isn't scratchy at all, and turned out quite soft. Of course I choose a manly BUTCH color to suit the "cool" persona he wants to portray. Not only that! The yarn also has little bits of colorful viskosa to represent his cheerful personality. My gosh, look at me putting meaning behind every detail ┐(´─`)┌

The hat wouldn't be complete without a huge star. I used the new Four Season's Cotton Fancy I got from the a clearance sale. The colorway is so pretty. I definitely want to try knitting with this yarn.

Fuji

Whenever I go back home, my dad and I will arrange one night to have a "steak dinner". We've been to numerous restaurants and steak houses in order to find the best steaks in town. To our surprise, we've both come to the agreement that the best steaks in our city is not found in fine dining French restaurants. But rather a Japanese branch restaurant named Fuji.

The beef is nicely trimmed of any fat, bones, and other chewy bits, yet it still is surprisingly moist. The pieces are cut into perfect bite sized portions. On top of that, the price is so affordable. What we paid for the whole dinner at Fuji wouldn't even be able to afford us with an appetizer at some of the overpriced restaurants elsewhere. Plus, the set comes with a nicely seasoned shrimp appetizer, salad, rice, kimchi and soup.

Sometimes I think western foods try too hard with the heavy sauces, the original flavor of the protein is totally lost! I prefer eating food that is perfectly cooked. Have you gotten the hint that I'm not a fan of sauces yet :D?

While going to the supermarket, I saw Washington's Apples billboard. I never knew there were so many different types!

I've tried five out of the ten different apples they have, and only one type of pear. The Gala and Granny Smith types are my favorites.

I must definitely make an effort to try out all the apples and pears!

Making cookies is always so fun. No matter how big or small you make the cookie drop, they will always spread and turn out nicely :)

Our house is still lacking proper cookie sheets, so several cake tins and ceramic plates had to be used instead. (@_@;)

The cookies were made as dessert for a family gathering the following day. But before we went to bed, they were all gone! Everytime a family member walked in and out of the kitchen, they grabbed one.....no wonder they disappeared so quickly!

Brown sweater

Completed my first proper sweater!

The pattern is quite lovely! It's a very quick to knit, since it's plain stockinette all the way through. The finishing isn't too bad either. I love the simplicity of the pattern.

My only disappointment would be the yarn choice. The yarn itself is very nice, i love the tweedy effect. Though, I was hoping it would be less scratchy. As it was my first time completing a sweater for the bf I wanted it to turn out excellent. Next time I'll try to find a merino or cashmere blend.

There's a lovely little store I found through a magazine recommendation. They're called Cupcake Carousel and their baked goods are to die for!

The only downside is their prices. Originally me and the bf were going to buy one each due to the prices. But they had such a great selection is was so difficult to choose just two. To add to the pressure, the salesclerk encouraged us to get six items in order to fill up a whole box. We were so easily persuaded :)

Coaster embroidery

I'm currently working on my first real embroidery project that isn't a cross-stitch kit.

The pattern comes from an inspiring Japanese embroidery book. (Amazon link) This book is simply fabulous. It's inspired by "British Style Needlework". It has a nice variety including: bead embroidery, bead work, stump work, jacobean embroidery, gold work, and irish white work. The photography is beautiful. The author also includes several snap shots she took while in England and shows us what inspired each pattern.

I'm working on the pattern featured on the back cover. I'm still debating whether to include pearl centers to the flowers. The tiny pearls I have don't exactly have the appropriate blue tint.

This is a brown Mulberry box where my diary came in. The box's quality was so good I couldn't throw it away. I currently keep my small collection of supplies in it. Although, recently the box has become so full it's hard to close it sometimes.

There's a smaller box in the box! It has little compartments to keep buttons, sequins, and other small decoratives. I also keep the few odd pieces of fabric I own.

And my small embroidery thread collection. I love admiring all the different shades of colors; it's quite inspiring!

I bought this yarn (and many other colors) at a PINN sale. It was extra cheap, so I grabbed quite a few skeins. It's a lovely yarn to knit washcloths with. The colors were also beautiful, lots of nice pastel colors.

I used part of the skein to make a gift for him :) I was extremely excited when I finished it, as it was my first few knits. I followed the pattern from Knitting Memories. I did made two tiny mistakes in the transformer's cheeks though. I didn't really realize this until it was blocked. But it's okay, we both agreed that it looked like a scar and made him look cooler.

I rolled the cloth up and tied it with a crocheted piece of string.
